I have been online looking at various websites for information on immigration. I found this website that has some great information, CFR (Council on Foreign Relations). I like it because it doesn't take a particular stance, but it still has a lot of information about what is going on with immigration reform. It not only talks about what has been going on with immigration reform but also where we are with reform. I am still learning about this topic myself but from what I can gather, we are pretty much stalled out in reform because noone really wants to take a firm stance in support of immigration reform that will actually help immigrants become US citizens and keep families together. I also believe there needs to be more legislation passed at the state level. More positive legislation like what California has passed, which according to the information on CFR:,
"In September 2013, California enacted some of the most immigrant-friendly policies on the books: Undocumented immigrants are eligible to apply for drivers' licenses, practice law, and receive in-state tuition at universities. Legal permanent residents may sit on juries and monitor polls, although they cannot vote."
There is actually a lot of information out there right now since it is a hot topic for the Presidential election. However, you have to really read the information because this is a such a hot political topic right now and you want to make sure the information you are reading is remaining neutral That is the only way you can truly be educated on this very important issue.
I don't get into politics much but I firmly believe that everyone that comes over here, legally or illegally, is escaping their home for a reason and we need to do what we can to help them become the best they can be. This is the chance that your ancestors had. This is the chance that every human should have.

New focus for my English 112 class!
We are starting a new english assignment, which is a problem/solution essay. My topic is on immigration reform. I started thinking more about immigration because of my last essay topic, which was about my chosen Kiva candidate who was from El Salvador. As I was researching El Salvador, I found out that gang violence is a big problem in El Salvador. The gang activity is so bad that El Salvador is now one of the countries with the highest murder rates.
I had never thought much about immigration until I starting reading some of the articles about why parents are sending their children to America illegally. They are trying to protect their children from the violence. That's when I started to think more about immigration and the why of the equation. So, my focus on immigration is to help people to be better informed about this very important topic, which is also a hot topic for the Presidential candidates. I read a lot of generalizations about immigrants and their reasons for coming over here, but the bottom line is this country was founded by immigrants and we need to look at the reasons they came to America in the first place. Their reasons are the very reasons people are still coming to America today. We need immigration reform that will help immigrants with a path towards citizenship and we also need to keep families together!
